\u672c\u6587\u4ecb\u7ecd\u7684\u8d44\u6599\u662f\u8fc7\u53bb\u4e0d\u66fe\u5f15\u4eba\u6ce8\u76ee\u7684\uff0c1850\u5e74\u4ee3\u6b27\u6d32\u4eba\u4ecb\u7ecd\u4e0e\u8bc4\u4ecb\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u8d44\u6599\uff0c\u76ee\u524d\u6536\u85cf\u4e8e\u65e5\u672c\u4e1c\u6d0b\u6587\u5e93\u7684\u83ab\u7406\u5faa\uff08George Fornest Morrison\uff1b1862-1920\uff09\u6587\u5e93\u3002\u8fd9\u4e9b\u65b0\u53f2\u6599\u4e3b\u8981\u5448\u73b0\u4e86\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u5b97\u6559\u9762\u5411\uff0c\u4e5f\u6709\u4e00\u4e9b\u63cf\u8ff0\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7edf\u6cbb\u4e4b\u4e0b\u7684\u6c11\u4f17\u751f\u6d3b\u573a\u666f\uff0c\u7279\u522b\u662f\u4e00\u4e9b\u753b\u50cf\u503c\u5f97\u6ce8\u76ee\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u8be5\u4e66\u4f5c\u8005\u4e0d\u660e\uff0c\u4ece\u5e8f\u6587\u4e2d\u770b\u51fa\uff0c\u4f5c\u8005\u5e76\u6ca1\u6709\u8bbf\u95ee\u8fc7\u5357\u4eac\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u5728\u7b2c\u4e94\u7ae0\u300a\u524d\u5f80\u5357\u4eac\u300b\u4e2d\uff0c\u6709\u82f1\u56fd\u516c\u4f7f\u6587\u7ff0(S.G.Bonham) \u5bf9\u5357\u4eac\u7684\u8be6\u7ec6\u63cf\u8ff0\u3002\u7531\u6b64\u53ef\u4ee5\u63a8\u6d4b\uff0c\u4f5c\u8005\u662f\u6839\u636e\u516c\u4f7f\u7684\u62a5\u544a\u4e2d\u5bf9\u5f53\u65f6\u5357\u4eac\u57ce\u5185\u5904\u5904\u5145\u6ee1\u6d3b\u529b\u7684\u6837\u5b50\u8fdb\u884c\u63cf\u7ed8\u7684\u3002\u672c\u4e66\u503c\u5f97\u6ce8\u76ee\u7684\u662f\u5728\u5357\u4eac\u4e0e\u5bc6\u8fea\u4e50\uff08T.T.Meadows\uff09\u4e00\u8d77\u4f1a\u89c1\u5317\u738b\u97e6\u660c\u8f89\u7684\u82f1\u519b\u4e0a\u5c09Lieutenant Sprat\u7684\u4e66\u4fe1\u3002\u4ed6\u63cf\u8ff0\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u6709\u5f3a\u70c8\u7684\u4f7f\u547d\u611f\uff0c\u6e05\u519b\u65e0\u80fd\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u5f97\u5230\u6c11\u4f17\u7684\u652f\u6301\uff0c\u70ed\u5fc3\u4e8e\u6253\u7834\u65e2\u6709\u7684\u793e\u4f1a\u79e9\u5e8f\uff0c\u7279\u522b\u662f\u5076\u50cf\u5d07\u62dd\uff0c\u73b0\u8bb0\u8ff0\u5982\u4e0b\uff1a<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They believe they have a mission from heaven to kill all the Mantchoos, and they certainly put this in execution as far as they can; and, without attempting to justify this practice, I believe that nothing short of driving the Tartars out of the country can make civilization progressive in China\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Confidence was said to be on the increase among the old population, and they were gradually returning to their homes, and I fully believe this to be the case, as we saw many carrying furniture and clothes, etc., into the city. We observed, also, that the houses of the better classes of Chinese were sealed up by the insurgent chiefs, I fancy to prevent their being plundered; not so those of the Mantchoos, which they evidently consider fair game\u2500the disgorgement of unjust gain and plunder from them for other Chinese. Their clear principle is, China for Chinese.\uff08p.127\uff09<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u7531\u6b64\u770b\u51fa\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u5c06\u5175\u4eec\u76f8\u4fe1\u8bdb\u706d\u6240\u6709\u6ee1\u4eba\u662f\u4e00\u79cd\u4e0a\u5e1d\u8d4b\u4e88\u7684\u4f7f\u547d\u3002\u867d\u7136\u4ed6\u4eec\u6ca1\u6709\u7528\u7406\u8bba\u6765\u628a\u8fd9\u4e00\u884c\u4e3a\u6b63\u5f53\u5316\uff0c\u4f46Sprat\u4e5f\u8ba4\u4e3a\u4e3a\u4e86\u4e2d\u56fd\u201c\u6587\u660e\u7684\u8fdb\u6b65\uff08civilization progressive\uff09\u201d\uff0c\u5e94\u5f53\u9a71\u9010\u6e05\u671d\u3002\u6b64\u5916\uff0c\u6709\u5173\u4ed6\u4eec\u770b\u5230\u5357\u4eac\u4eba\u53e3\u6b63\u5728\u9010\u6b65\u6062\u590d\uff0c\u4eba\u4eec\u6b63\u5728\u5f80\u57ce\u5185\u642c\u8fc1\u5bb6\u8d22\u548c\u8863\u7269\u7684\u63cf\u8ff0\uff0c\u7ed9\u4eba\u660e\u786e\u7684\u4fe1\u606f\u662f\uff0c\u8fd9\u662f\u201c\u4e2d\u56fd\u4eba\u7684\u4e2d\u56fd\u201d\uff0c\u90a3\u4e9b\u6709\u94b1\u4eba\u7684\u8c6a\u5b85\u88ab\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u9996\u9886\u9738\u5360\u3001\u6ee1\u4eba\u7684\u8d22\u4ea7\u88ab\u6ca1\u6536\u7684\u505a\u6cd5\uff0c\u662f\u6ca1\u6709\u9053\u7406\u53ef\u4ee5\u6307\u8d23\u7684\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u5176\u6b21\uff0cSprat\u6307\u51fa\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u4eba\u6709\u4e25\u683c\u7684\u4f26\u7406\u89c4\u8303\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u5c3d\u91cf\u7537\u5973\u9694\u79bb\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u7684\u6cd5\u5ead\u5bf9\u8bc9\u8bbc\u4eba\u5f00\u653e\uff0c\u4e0e\u6e05\u653f\u5e9c\u8859\u95e8\u5b9e\u65bd\u9177\u5211\u7684\u505a\u6cd5\u4e0d\u540c\u3002\u4eba\u6c11\u5c06\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u79f0\u4e4b\u4e3a\u201c\u5723\u519b\uff08Holy Army\uff09\u201d\uff0c\u628a\u5357\u4eac\u79f0\u4e4b\u4e3a\u201c\u5723\u90fd\u201d\uff0c\u76f8\u4e92\u79f0\u4e4b\u4e3a\u201c\u5144\u5f1f\u201d\u3002Sprat\u8fd8\u5bf9\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u5360\u9886\u5357\u4eac\u65f6\u5236\u9020\u7684\u8650\u6740\u65d7\u4eba\u4e8b\u4ef6\u505a\u4e86\u5982\u4e0b\u7684\u8bc4\u4ef7\uff1a<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It is horrible to think that they cut off 20,000 Mantchoos, even to the infant at breast, but they seem hostile only to them; but it is still more horrible to think that the Mantchoos, in two of the many provinces, cut off as many in the name of justice within the year(we know of 2,000 in six weeks); and this in the name of justice! The former is the exception, the latter is the rule. It may prove the least sanguinary practice in the end. Like Cromwell\u2019s severity at Drogheda, it has struck terror into their opponents; the Mantchoos are chapfallen and almost afraid to approach them; they say that six of them would beat any twenty imperialists; They talk of their strength, when we know a multitude of them are but boys, and or their red eyes, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If they succeed,\u2500and I fancy they will, and soon\u2500they will deliver three hundred millions from the grossest of immoralities, the most grovelling of idolatries, and the most grinding of tyrannies. China will be opened to light, life and civilization, all which will be thrown with all their influences and importance into the Anglo-Saxon scale.(pp.128)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sprat\u5bf9\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u8650\u6740\u5305\u62ec\u513f\u7ae5\u5728\u5185\u7684\u4e24\u4e07\u591a\u65d7\u4eba\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\u786e\u5b9e\u611f\u5230\u6050\u6016\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u8650\u6740\u7684\u5bf9\u8c61\u9650\u5b9a\u5728\u6000\u6709\u654c\u610f\u7684\u4eba\u7fa4\u3002\u4ed6\u8ba4\u4e3a\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u7684\u505a\u6cd5\u4e0e\u6e05\u671d\u5728\u8fd9\u4e00\u5e74\u4e2d\u4ee5\u6b63\u4e49\u7684\u540d\u4e49\u5236\u9020\u7684\u8650\u6740\u884c\u4e3a\u4e0d\u540c\u3002\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u7684\u5c60\u6740\u662f\u4e00\u4e2a\u4e2a\u6848\uff0c\u4e0e\u6b64\u76f8\u53cd\uff0c\u6e05\u671d\u5219\u5c06\u5c60\u6740\u4f5c\u4e3a\u4e00\u79cd\u7edf\u6cbb\u624b\u6bb5\uff0c\u76f8\u8f83\u4e4b\u4e0b\u66f4\u52a0\u53ef\u6015\u3002\u8fd9\u4e0e\u540c\u65f6\u671f\u8bbf\u95ee\u5357\u4eac\u7684\u8d39\u7155\u90a6\uff08E.G Fishbourne\uff09\u7684\u770b\u6cd5\u5927\u76f8\u5f84\u5ead\uff0c\u8d39\u7155\u90a6\u4e0d\u76f8\u4fe1\u53d1\u751f\u8fc7\u8fd9\u6837\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\uff0cSprat\u770b\u6cd5\u5176\u5b9e\u6bd4\u8f83\u51b7\u9759\u3002Sprat\u8fd8\u6307\u51fa\uff0c\u5357\u4eac\u4e8b\u4ef6\u540e\uff0c\u6ee1\u4eba\u610f\u6c14\u6d88\u6c89\uff0c\u4e0d\u6562\u4e0e\u592a\u5e73\u519b\u5bf9\u6297\uff0c\u4e0e\u6b64\u76f8\u53cd\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u4eba\u54ea\u6015\u662f\u5c0f\u5b69\uff0c\u5bf9\u6e05\u519b\u4e00\u70b9\u4e5f\u4e0d\u60e7\u6015\u3002\u4f9d\u636e\u8fd9\u4e9b\u4e8b\u5b9e\uff0cSprat\u8ba4\u4e3a\uff0c\u5047\u5982\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u6210\u529f\uff0c\u4e2d\u56fd\u4e09\u4ebf\u4eba\u5c31\u6709\u53ef\u80fd\u4ece\u975e\u9053\u5fb7\u3001\u5230\u5904\u662f\u5076\u50cf\u5d07\u62dc\u3001\u4e13\u5236\u7edf\u6cbb\u4e4b\u4e0b\u83b7\u5f97\u89e3\u653e\uff0c\u5c31\u4f1a\u51fa\u73b0\u5982\u540c\u6b27\u6d32\u4eba\u4e00\u6837\u7684\u6587\u660e\uff0c\u6545\u800c\u4ed6\u5145\u6ee1\u671f\u5f85\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u82f1\u56fd\u516c\u4f7f\u6587\u7ff0\u4e00\u884c\u7ed3\u675f\u5357\u4eac\u8bbf\u95ee\u540e\u53c8\u53bb\u4e86\u9547\u6c5f\uff0c\u4e0e\u7f57\u5927\u7eb2\u89c1\u9762\uff0c\u4ea4\u6362\u4e86\u4e00\u4e9b\u770b\u6cd5\uff0c\u63a2\u8ba8\u4e86\u4eca\u540e\u82f1\u56fd\u662f\u914d\u5408\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u8fd8\u662f\u4e0e\u4e4b\u4ea4\u6218\u7684\u524d\u666f\u3002\u8fd9\u90e8\u5206\u5185\u5bb9\u4e0e\u8d39\u7155\u90a6\u8457\u4f5c\u300a\u4e2d\u56fd\u5370\u8c61\u8bb0\u300b\uff08Impression of China\uff09\u8bb0\u8ff0\u7684\u5185\u5bb9\u57fa\u672c\u4e00\u81f4\u3002\u5f53\u65f6\u82f1\u6587\u53f2\u6599\u5e38\u6709\u76f8\u4e92\u5f15\u7528\u7684\u60c5\u51b5\uff0c\u4f46\u4ece\u51fa\u7248\u5e74\u4ee3\u6765\u770b\uff0c\u672c\u4e66\u7684\u5185\u5bb9\u53ef\u4ee5\u8ba4\u4e3a\u662f\u6bd4\u8f83\u539f\u59cb\u7684\u3002\u672c\u4e66\u7b2c5\u7ae0\u3001\u7b2c9\u7ae0\u4ee5\u53ca\u300a\u53db\u519b\u7684\u6559\u4e49\u300b\uff08The Doctrines of the Insurgents\uff09\u4ecb\u7ecd\u4e86\u300a\u5317\u534e\u6377\u62a5\u300b\u520a\u767b\u7684\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u6587\u4e66\u3001\u9ea6\u90fd\u601d\uff08Medhurst\uff09\u7684\u8bc4\u8bba\u548c\u7267\u5e08\u7684\u4fe1\u4ef6\uff0c\u8fd8\u4ecb\u7ecd\u4e86\u6536\u5f55\u4e8e\u300a\u9881\u884c\u8bcf\u4e66\u300b\u7684\u6768\u79c0\u6e05\u6a84\u6587\uff0c\u8bb0\u53d9\u4e86\u6768\u79c0\u6e05\u9a71\u9010\u5927\u641e\u5076\u50cf\u5d07\u62dc\u7684\u6ee1\u4eba\u3001\u5d07\u62dc\u4e0a\u5e1d\u7684\u4e3b\u5f20\uff0c\u5e76\u5bf9\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u5b97\u6559\u505a\u4e86\u5982\u4e0b\u7684\u4ecb\u7ecd\uff1a<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

From the foregoing curious documents, we are justified in inferring that there is evidently a tingle of fanaticism and of imposture in the religious cry raised by the insurgents, for, while they profess to venerate the religion of Jesus Christ, they do not scruple to style their own leader the younger brother of our load, who, they say, came down from heaven for the instruction of mankind in the Ting-yew year(1837), so that, although the foundation of their faith may be Christian, there is nothing to show that the superstructure is not as extravagant a superstition as Mormonism itself; and, as in the course of this narrative we have too frequently seen, they proselytize by massacre as much as by faith. Their belief in a special mission to destroy the Mantchoos\u2014man, woman, and child , so that there may not be left a sprout for the race to reproduce itself\u2014must certainly prove a bar to our perfect sympathy with them; and we are not surprised at the assiduity with which the English are recommending to their notice the New Testament in preference to the Old.\uff08pp.166\uff09<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u7531\u6b64\u770b\u51fa\uff0c\u4f5c\u8005\u8ba4\u4e3a\uff0c\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u7684\u5b97\u6559\u5450\u558a\u4e2d\u6709\u72c2\u70ed\u548c\u6b3a\u8bc8\u7684\u75db\u82e6\u3002\u5176\u57fa\u7840\u662f\u57fa\u7763\u6559\uff0c\u867d\u7136\u4ed6\u4eec\u6ca1\u6709\u50cf\u6469\u95e8\u6559\uff0819\u4e16\u7eaa\u7f8e\u56fd\u51fa\u73b0\u7684\u4e00\u79cd\u57fa\u7763\u6559\u6d3e\uff09\u90a3\u6837\u7684\u8ff7\u4fe1\u6027\uff0c\u4f46\u4ed6\u4eec\u7528\u4fe1\u4ef0\u4e0e\u8650\u6740\u5f3a\u8feb\u4ed6\u4eba\u6539\u6559\u3002\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u4ee5\u53bb\u9664\u6ee1\u4eba\u4e3a\u4f7f\u547d\uff0c\u8fd9\u79cd\u4fe1\u4ef0\u6210\u4e3a\u4e86\u6b27\u6d32\u4eba\u540c\u60c5\u4ed6\u4eec\u7684\u7eca\u811a\u77f3\u3002\u82f1\u56fd\u4eba\u89c4\u529d\u4ed6\u4eec\u91cd\u89c6\u65b0\u7ea6\uff0c\u4e0d\u8981\u504f\u4fe1\u65e7\u7ea6\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e00\u884c\u4e3a\u4e5f\u662f\u53ef\u4ee5\u7406\u89e3\u7684\u3002\u672c\u4e66\u5728\u5176\u4ed6\u6bb5\u843d\u4e2d\u4e5f\u5c06\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u6559\u4e49\u4e2d\u7684\u5f3a\u70c8\u653b\u51fb\u6027\u4e0e\u4f0a\u65af\u5170\u6559\u548c\u6469\u95e8\u6559\u6d3e\u8fdb\u884c\u4e86\u6bd4\u8f83\uff0c\u5bf9\u592a\u5e73\u5929\u56fd\u5bf9\u65d7\u4eba\u590d\u4ec7\u5fc3\u548c\u4e00\u592b\u591a\u59bb\u5236\uff08\u9886\u5bfc\u4eba\u7684\u597d\u8272\uff09\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u5bf9\u7edf\u6cbb\u6743\u7684\u6e34\u671b\u62b1\u6709\u7591\u8651\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I can not condemn them on account of these things so immediately and strongly as many do.
